2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD Review

With a power of 135 kW / 184 PS, the new VW Golf GTD can be recommended as a car that is as much a dynamic performer as a fuel-efficient long-distance touring car. In the version with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the 230 km/h Volkswagen consumes just 4.2 litres per 100 km; this combined fuel consumption equates to CO2 emissions of just 109 g/km. With the optional 6-speed DSG, fuel consumption is 4.7 l/100 km (two-door: 119 g/km CO2; four-door: 122 g/km CO2). Also impressive is its torque of 380 Nm, which is already available from 1,750 rpm.

Visually, the Volkswagen Golf GTD makes its appearance with its smoked LED rear lights with LED licence plate illumination and chrome dual tailpipes. 17-inch GTD wheels with 225/45 tyres, side sill trim, diffuser, sport suspension and a large roof spoiler round out the car’s overall dynamic impression.
The new Golf GTD is available in Germany at an entry-level price of 29,350 euros, and orders begin on the 5th of March, 2013.

2013 Volkswagen Scirocco GTS Review

Thirty years ago, Volkswagen launched the second generation of its Scirocco coupe - albeit based on the same platform as the original model.

To celebrate the occasion, the Wolfsburg automaker is reviving the Mk2's GTS moniker on a new edition of the current Scirocco, which will receive its public debut at this week's 2012 AMI in Leipzig, Germany.

The new Scirocco GTS is powered by a 2.0-liter TSI petrol with 207hp (210PS) and comes equipped with bespoke styling cues that hark back to the more colorful 1970s and 1980s.

On the outside, the package adds sportier front and rear bumpers, flared side skirts, black and red racing stripes running from the hood, over the roof and to the tailgate, red brake calipers and matching colored mirror caps, 18-inch wheels and black exhaust tips.

The same color theme continues inside with the black leather upholstery featuring red stitching, while the classic golf ball shift knob also makes a comeback on the manual gearbox model.

2013 VW Beetle Fender Edition Review

After the positive reaction it received at last year's Frankfurt International Auto Show, Volkswagen decided to build a production version of the Beetle Fender Edition Concept , which will make its world premiere at the Auto Mobil International show in Leipzig, Germany, on June 2.

The 2013 VW Beetle Fender Edition will go on sale in certain markets around the world including Europe and the U.S. from this fall, with pricing to be announced at a later date.

The special edition model is equipped with the 200hp 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and stands out with unique interior and exterior styling cues, as well as a 400-Watts Fender audio system with a 10-channel amplifier.

On the outside, all Beetle Fender Edition vehicles are finished in Deep Black Metallic paint and feature brushed chrome exterior mirrors, 18-inch “Disc” alloy wheels, Bi-Xenon headlights, and Fender logos.

Much like Fender’s famous guitars, the special edition Beetle's dashboard fascia is trimmed in two-tone ‘Sunburst’ wood, complete with a chrome Fender logo. Other highlights include the bespoke seating upholstery while each car will also come with three limited-edition Fender guitar picks.

2013 Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabriolet Review

2013 Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabriolet. With an output of 155 kW / 210 PS (from 5,300 rpm to 6,200 rpm), the TSI engine which lies at the heart of the new Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabriolet has exactly the same power as the classic GTI with a steel and/or panoramic sunroof. Specifically, this is a GTI direct-injection petrol engine of the EA888 series. The turbocharged 16-valve four-cylinder engine develops a maximum torque of 280 Newton metres at a low 1,700 rpm. And this torque remains available at a constant level up to 5,200 rpm – an ideal plateau for a torque curve, which is actually not curved any longer.

The TSI engine accelerates the most powerful Golf Cabriolet ever from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds. A special strength of the engine is its great flexibility: the manually shifted Cabriolet can accelerate from 80 to 120 km/h in just 10.5 seconds – this value shows why the open-top four-seat convertible is an ideal cruiser. The VW Golf GTI Cabriolet attains a top speed of 237 km/h (DSG: 235 km/h). This contrasts with a combined fuel consumption of just 7.6 l/100 km and 177 g/km as the equivalent CO2 emissions (DSG: 7.7 l/100 km and 180 g/km CO2). Incidentally, the Golf GTI is the only convertible in the compact class up to 210 PS to be offered with a dual clutch gearbox!

Like the classic Golf GTI with a fixed steel roof, the new convertible also exhibits visual trademarks of the GTI. They are the typical GTI insignia that have made their way into the collective memory of all car drivers over the past 36 years. At the front, they are the red framing of the radiator grille with its honeycomb structure and GTI signature, the honeycomb structure of the lower air inlets, the front GTI bumper and the GTI-specific fog lights with chrome surrounds. At the rear, the Golf GTI Cabriolet is distinguished by a new diffuser design, the typical chrome tailpipes (one on the left and one on the right) and smoked LED rear lights. The licence plate at the rear is also illuminated by LEDs. From the sides, the side sill extensions and 17-inch ‘Denver’ alloy wheels (on 225/45 tyres) make the convertible a GTI. Of course, here too 18-inch ‘Detroit’ GTI wheels with 225/40 tyres are available as an option.

2012 Volkswagen Golf GTI Black Dynamic Concept Review

Since October last year, nine young apprentices from Volkswagen aged 18 to 24 have been working on a special Golf GTI project. Their cumulative efforts gave birth to the Golf GTI Black Dynamic Concept, which is making its world premiere at this week's Wörthersee GTI meet in Austria.

Key styling changes include the matte grey hood with honeycomb decals that also appear on the car's profile, new black rims, LED headlamps, and a black and red themed interior.

The car also features a 1,800 Watt sound system with nine loudspeakers, which takes up the entire boot space.

There are more upgrades to be found under the sheetmetal as VW's apprentices modified the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine lifting output from 207hp (210PS) to 355hp (360PS), while also adding a new custom exhaust system and an eight-piston brake system with red calipers.

"This project illustrates how the thorough knowledge, commitment and creativity of our apprentices culminate in a fascinating show car that combines technical extravagance and everyday utility," commented Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars Board of Management responsible for Development.

Volkswagen Passat R-Line 2012 Review

On the outside, the newly designed bumper and side skirts set in the R-sporty styling accents. These belong in the front area of particularly large cooling air inlet with the R-Line logo in the grille and integrated fog lamps. The rear of the new Passat R-Line is in the “Gloss Black” dominated painted diffuser. Also affect the dynamic and elegant roof spoiler in body color, and not least the silver anodized roof railing. The features of the Passat R-Line, the dynamically tuned sports suspension, lowering the suspension by 15 millimeters belong (except for vehicles with DCC) and the 17-inch alloy wheels type “Mallory” in titanium silver with 235 mobility tires (optional 18-inch).

The Passat R-Line also scores in the interior with numerous equipment details: In addition to the sports seats in design “Kyalami” the decorative inserts in “titanium silver” in the dashboard, door panels and center console for extra sportiness. A sports leather steering wheel and stainless steel elements on the pedals and the front door sill plates with R-Line logo round out the features.

For the Passat and Passat Variant, there is now also an optional “R line package design” (for Comfortline and Highline). It includes the R-line bumper, the rear or roof spoiler in body color, newly designed side sills in styling as well as the R-R-Line logo on the radiator grille. The design package for the Passat and Passat Variant is a price of 990, – Euros.

2012 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack Review

The Volkswagen Passat Alltrack is offered in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (4MOTION). However, in both cases the vehicle is designed to tow large trailer loads and drive through extremely rough terrain. That is why torque-strong turbocharged engines are used exclusively in the latest Volkswagen – two petrol (TSI) and two diesel (TDI) engines. The maximum torque of the efficient four-cylinder engines lies in the range of 250 to 350 Newton metres. None of the four engines requires more than 1,750 rpm to achieve its maximum torque, making it ideal for all driving situations.

140 to 210 PS. The two petrol engines of the Volkswagen produce 118 kW / 160 PS (1.8 litre displacement) and 155 kW / 210 PS (2.0 litre displacement); the two turbodiesels, each with 2.0 litre displacement, produce 103 kW / 140 PS and 125 kW / 170 PS. Both TDIs are delivered as BlueMotion Technology versions (BMT) as standard – i.e. with Stop/Start system and battery regeneration mode for recovering braking energy. The models with a petrol engine also have a battery regeneration mode.

170 and 210 PS versions have 4MOTION as standard. The most powerful Alltrack versions, the 170 PS TDI and the 210 PS TSI, are always equipped with permanent all-wheel drive (4MOTION) and a dual clutch gearbox (DSG). For the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack with 140 PS (TDI), Volkswagen offers all-wheel drive as an option. The VW Passat Alltrack – like all other Passats – is built in the Volkswagen factory in the north German city of Emden.

Under six litres fuel per 100 km. Just how efficiently the VW Passat Alltrack engines work together with the intelligently controlled 4MOTION all-wheel drive is illustrated by the two TDIs: the 140 PS version’s combined fuel consumption is a low 5.7 l/100 km (equivalent to 150 g/km CO2), while the 170 PS version attains a value of 5.9 l/100 km (155 g/km CO2). And yet, the petrol engines – which like the diesels are equipped with direct fuel injection – are equally efficient engines. The combined fuel consumption of the 160 PS TSI is 7.7 l/100 km, while the 210 PS TSI attains 8.5 l/100 km.

ABT Sportsline Volkswagen Tiguan

The specification book stated that the characteristics of the new Volkswagen Tiguan had to be supported. In plain talk this means that the car should have maximum reliability, enjoyable driving characteristics on almost all surfaces and agility – and the engineers at ABT have done a good job: the successful 2.0 TDI version now offers strong 170 HP/125 kW (series standard: 140 HP/103 kW) or 195 HP/143 kW (series standard: 170 HP/125 kW). 

ABT Sportsline Volkswagen Tiguan

With the economical turbo petrol engine with 1.4 litre cubic capacity a dynamic 210 HP (154 kW) is available instead of the standard 160 HP (118 kW). The fact that the fuel consumption does not increase as a result is a matter of course at ABT Sportsline. The sportiest Volkswagen Tiguan facelift is the one with the 2.0-TSI engine. The machinery is currently undergoing extensive testing but the technicians have already revealed that – depending on the series performance – either over 210 HP (154 kW) or as much as 250 HP (184 kW) will be reached.
