2013 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Review, The new basic engine in the OM 607 series develops 80 kW (109 hp), delivers 260 Nm to the crankshaft and with a manual transmission consumes 3.8 litres per 100 km, corresponding to 98 g of CO2/km. This is a 22-percent improvement over the only 60 kW (82 hp) preceding model, the A 160 CDI, which consumed 4.9 litres. The new top diesel, the A 220 CDI, is no less than 25 percent better than its predecessor: it develops an output of 125 kW (170 hp) and 350 Nm of torque, and in combination with the 7G-DCT automatic dual clutch transmission it consumes only 4.3 litres/100 km (provisional figure). The figures for the preceding A 200 CDI were 103 kW(140 hp), 5.7 litres, and 149 g of CO2/km.

A comparison between the new and previous A 200 demonstrates what has been achieved with the petrol engines: with 115 kW(156 hp) and 250 Nm of torque, the new engine delivers superior performance but consumes only 5.4 litres/100 km (127g CO2/km – figures for the 7G-DCT), which is 26 percent less than its predecessor (100 kW, 185 Nm, 7.4 l/100 km, 174 g CO2/km). Even the new top model with the 7G-DCT and producing 155 kW(211 hp) and 350 Nm is considerably more efficient with a consumption of 6.1 litres and CO2 emissions of 143 g.

The completely new engines and transmissions are not the only decisive factors in this exemplary efficiency. Thanks to the modular system it has been possible to select the optimally designed transmission for each diesel and petrol engine. The overall package is rounded off perfectly with progressive aerodynamics with a Cd figure of only 0.27, as well as a number of other improvements.

With all engine variants, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class comes with disc brakes on all wheels. The callipers on the rear axle and the brake boosters are made of aluminium. A particularly convenient feature is the HOLD function, which is familiar from the larger model series: when stopping, for example at traffic lights, the driver merely has to press the brake pedal slightly more firmly and the brake will remain engaged until he moves off again. The brake is released automatically when the driver steps on the accelerator. On versions with manual transmission, the Hill Hold function automatically prevents the vehicle from rolling back unintentionally when starting on a slope.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class is equipped with an electric parking brake, which operates by means of actuator motors acting on the callipers of the rear axle. The parking brake is activated via a button under the light switch on the left of the dashboard. This creates additional space in the centre console, as the handbrake lever is no longer required. When the button is pressed at speeds of over four km/h, the parking brake acts as an emergency brake, activating all four wheel brakes via the ESP®’s hydraulic unit.

In conjunction with the 7G-DCT automatic transmission, the parking brake offers a particularly convenient mode of functioning: when the driver accelerates sufficiently after fastening their seat belt, the parking brake is released automatically.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series Edition Tuned by VÄTH

Mercedes-Benz launched a Black Series Edition of its C63 AMG Coupe featuring a more hardcore chassis setup and an uprated 6.2-liter V8 producing 510hp (517PS) to target those that were not impressed by the 451hp (457PS) "standard" model.

As it seems, VÄTH was not impressed with Mercedes-Benz's proposal either as the aftermarket tuner has developed a new performance package for the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series Edition called V63 Supercharged.

The big bang comes from Väth's power kit that breathes even more fire into the V8 engine by using a compressor system complete with an in-house manufactured water-charging air cooling system, an ECU remap and a custom exhaust system to bump output to 746hp (756PS) and 800Nm (590 lb-ft) of peak torque.

The complete engine modification costs €38,500 (US$47,900) and allows the AMG coupe to reach a top speed of 350km/h (218mph), while trimming the 0-100km/h (62mph) acceleration time from 4.2 seconds down to 3.6 seconds.

For an additional cost, Väth also provides a complete suspension with 20–65 mm lowering and hardness, as well as with adjustable shock absorbers, a more powerful braking system with 405mm discs, and new 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 255/30-20 tires on the front and 295/25-20 tires on the rear axle.

Other options include a blacked out grille without the Mercedes-Benz star, a sport steering wheel in leather with carbon or wood trim, and a 400km/h (250mph) speedometer.

2012 Mercedes-Benz G-Class GoldStorm Package

So what if the G-Wagen was initially developed as a military vehicle before Mercedes-Benz began offering it as a rough n' tough civilian model back in 1979; tuners continue to see a street racing potential in the G-Class, despite the fact that everything about this model screams "4x4 off-roader".

Then again, Mercedes itself has gone down this path with its insane and utterly pointless AMG variants spearheaded by the new G65 AMG, which sports a…603bhp 6.0-liter bi-turbocharged V12.

Consequently, we doubt anyone will be surprised with this new styling package for the G-Class series from German Custom Specials (GSC). For now, we only get a set of teaser renderings and some initial details, but the tuning company plans to bring it to life within this year.

The package is named GoldStorm after its brassy paintwork and includes a wide body kit made from carbon fiber, new headlamps that reminds us of those found on the Rolls Royce Ghost, new circular tail lamps, and five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in low profile sport tires.

Aside from the lowered suspension, GSC does not say if it will offer any other performance or handling upgrades.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG T-Model Review

2012 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG T-Model. Designed specifically for the high-revving engine in the Mercedes C 63 AMG, edo competition is offering a power kit that’s in a class of its own. It consists of a new high-performance exhaust system, exhaust headers, high-flow catalytic converters, new air filters, revised engine electronics and a removal of the top speed governor. 

The result is an enormous power increase from the stock output of 457 horsepower / 336 kW to 600 horsepower / 441 kW. At the same time the torque output growns from 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) to 680 Nm (501 lb-ft). As will all engine modications done by edo competition, a dynamometer is used to carry out the tuning work, and the actual output is documented accurately.

An impressive and awe-inspiring soundtrack is provided by the new exhaust with butterfly valves. The high-performance exhaust system features a programmable electronic controller that monitors the level of back pressure and opens the integrated 70 mm butterfly valves when a certain threshold is exceeded. The exhaust is made entirely from stainless steel and the chromed exhaust tips that mimic the factory pieces add to the car’s expressive styling.

The extreme speeds that the edo C 63 AMG T-Model is capable of require specific modifications to its wheels. 19-inch Michelin high-performance tires allow for a top speed exceeding 340 km/h (211 mph). The 235/35 ZR 19 front tires are mounted on 8.5Jx19 multi-piece wheels, while 265/30 ZR 19 tires on 9.5Jx19 multi-piece wheels are used on the rear axle.

Mercedes-Benz Truck Family with New Antos

 

The Mercedes-Benz CV division has announced the name and released the first sketches and photos of the new Antos truck in advance of its world premiere at the 2012 Commercial Vehicle Show in Frankfurt this September. 

The new Antos model series is designed specifically for heavy-duty short-radius distribution, which Mercedes-Benz says covers the regional transportation of goods such as food.

The styling of the Antos draws its inspiration from the larger Actros, which is Mercedes-Benz's proposal in the long-distance transport truck segment.

The Antos offers a 2.30-metre wide cab in either short or medium-size versions and will be available in platform truck or tractor units with a wide range of 67 wheelbase lengths, varying from 2650 mm (104 inches) to as much as 6700mm (263.8 inches).

The engine lineup is equally diverse as Mercedes will offer a total of 13 Euro VI units ranging in power from 239hp to 510hp.

Look Classic Mercedes-Benz G-Class 2013

The range of engines in the Mercedes-Benz G-Class includes the G 350 BlueTEC and the G 500, both as a long-wheelbase station wagon, plus the G 500 as a short-wheelbase Cabriolet model.The basic version of the long-wheelbase station wagon model is the G 350 BlueTEC with V6 diesel engine and a displacement of 2987 cc.

The four-valve engine has an output of 155 kW (211 hp) at 3400 rpm and has available torque of 540 Newton metres across an engine speed range of 1600 to 2400 rpm. The BlueTEC technology developed by Mercedes-Benz minimises its emissions, in particular of nitrogen oxides (NOx). The G 350 BlueTEC works to even better effect with the addition of AdBlue®, an aqueous urea solution that is injected into the flow of exhaust gases. Refilling with AdBlue®is conveniently done from the outside of the vehicle.

The external modifications include LED daytime running lamps and new exterior mirrors for all engine variants. The AMG versions also feature a new, characteristic AMG radiator grille with double louvres, plus distinctive new bumpers with large air intakes. Red brake callipers and 20-inch wheels, available here for the first time, complement the emotive appeal of its exterior.

One alternative to the diesel engine is the G 500, with its powerful 5.5-litre V8 petrol engine. This has an output of 285 kW (388 hp) and offers excellent torque of 530 Newton metres. The same engine also ensures that the G 500 Cabriolet has generous reserves of power to deal with any situation.
Both the G 350 and the G 500 feature the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission as standard. This sixth generation of the stepped automatic transmission that has been developed and produced by Mercedes-Benz since 1960 has once again been thoroughly revised, and optimised with regard to both consumption and comfort.


New to the range is the G 63 AMG with V8 biturbo engine (400 kW/544 hp and 760 Nm of torque), which features the ECO start/stop system as standard. The engine range has been extended by the addition of the G 65 AMG with V12 biturbo engine (450 kW/612 hp and 1000 Nm of torque), making this the most powerful series-produced cross-country vehicle in the world.
The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class is available from June 2012.

2012 Hamann Hawk Mercedes-Benz SLS Roadster

Already in its basis version, the SLS provides a significant engine output. But the HAMANN engine department puts some additional power reserves into the V8 engine. Part of the power enhancement is the high-performance exhaust system made out of stainless steel. In combination with a sports air filter, this system also renders the earthy and powerful sound of the 6.2 litre aggregate. The components are precisely adjusted with the help of a new engine characteristic map for motor electronics. With a top performance of 636 hp / 468 kW and a maximum torque of 680 Nm at 4,850 r.p.m, the HAMANN engine exactly meets the wishes of its sports ambitious clientele. The performance enhanced wing door automobile provides first class measures. In race start mode, the two-seater accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.6 seconds and with a top speed of 320 km/h, the HAMANN HAWK Roadster also surpasses the basis model.

In order to perfectly combine comfort and control, HAMANN uses the single-part, especially light forged wheels “Unique Forged Anodized“ in 21 inches. These are fitted in 9Jx21 with tyres measuring 245/30 ZR 21 at the front and 12.5Jx21 with tyres measuring 345/25 ZR 21 at the rear axle.
