Efficient Cars Ford Escape Hybrid

The compact SUV market is teeming with great competition but in the small hybrid category, the 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid is a good option. What’s good is that there are a lot of good things in this package.

A glance at the numbers – 66.4 cubic feet of cargo space and an EPA fuel economy rating of 32 mpg – may not prove the Escape Hybrid to be impressive but its combination makes it a versatile and efficient urban vehicle. It also comes with technological features such as the Ford’s Sync voice-activated infotainment system and an automated parallel-parking feature.

On the other hand, the Escape Hybrid has its share of disadvantages. The lines are a little old and the hardware for the hybrid system adds a load that interferes with the braking and handling.

Engine & Performance

There are two trims available for the Hybrid – the base and the Limited.
As a hybrid, fuel economy is one strong suit of the Escape Hybrid. And as a plus, it drives nicely beating the previous reputation of hybrids to be sluggish. It pumps out higher-than-adequate acceleration with its 153-horsepower gasoline engine and 94-horsepower electric motor.
EPA rates the Escape Hybrid at 30/27 mpg city/highway on all-wheel drives and 34/31 mpg on front-wheel drives. These are the best combined fuel economy in the SUV market today.
While many find the handling of the Escape Hybrid very pleasant, the braking continues to be a problem. They find the stopping distance to be a bit long.

Exterior

The exterior design of the 2011 Escape Hybrid is quite outdated. It hasn’t changed since the 2008 redesign.
However, an impressive feature is the capless self-sealing fuel-filler system. It makes filling up easier and reduces evaporative emissions.
Other features worth mentioning are the chrome exterior accents, sunroof, rear parking assists, and rearview camera.

Interior

The Escape Hybrid’s interior may also look dated but is still pleasing to the eye with its soft-touch materials. The Limited models look more state-of-the-art thanks to the chrome accents with changeable ambient lighting to suit the user’s taste.
Like its gas-only sister, the Escape Hybrid seats five and there are not very many issues on comfort and spaciousness. The complaints fall on the lack of a telescoping steering wheel.
The Escape Hybrid comes with additional features such as its dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control, leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise and audio controls, and a compass and outside temperature monitor.
The cargo space is at 66.4 cubic feet of space when the rear-seats are folded.

Safety & Reliability

The Ford Escape Hybrid offers standard antilock brakes plus front-seat side airbags, stability control, and full-length head curtain airbags with rollover sensor. It also has the MyKey feature for parents who want to set speed limits for their teen children.
The Escape Hybrid boasts a score of perfect five stars in front and side crash testing. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave a ranking of “Good” on the Escape Hybrid’s frontal offset and side crash protection.
Most Ford vehicles comes with a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty including five years or 60,000 miles of roadside assistance, this is also available for the Escape Hybrid.

Competition

The GMC Terrain is a fuel-efficient and comparable alternative (MSRP$24,500; 22 city/ 32 hwy). The Terrain also has a versatile rear seat and a more modern interior. Another cheaper alternative is the Hyundai Tucson (MSRP $18,895; 22 city/ 30 hwy). It is nearly a match on fuel-efficiency in addition to its high-tech features.

Pros & Cons
If there is something the consumer can expect from the Ford Escape Hybrid, it is the best in fuel economy when it comes to SUV’s while having good handling like a non-hybrid. The shifting from gas to electric is also smooth.
The negative side is that the rear seats aren’t as versatile as rivals and it has a very expensive sticker price. The braking is also quite messy.

What others say:
“The Escape Hybrid blends the virtues of the conventional Escape with fuel saving technologies.”Consumer Reports
“A gas/electric Hybrid model also returns in Base and Limited trims. It teams a 155-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gas engine with an electric motor. It requires no plug-in charging and uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that behaves much like an automatic.”Consumer Guide
“While the bigger, heavier 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid doesn't deliver all the fuel economy of smaller hybrids like the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid, it does offer greater utility and capability, especially when outfitted with four-wheel drive.” KBB

About Jeep Wrangler Nautic concepts in Paris

Now that Chrysler is owned by FiatJeep is looking to become a truly international brand, with a primary goal of raising its profile in the European market. As such, it comes as little surprise that Jeep has teamed up with French design studio Style & Design to create a pair of nautical-themed Wrangler Unlimited models at the Paris Boat Show.

For those with a love of the ocean and a heady wind at the sails, there's the White Jeep Wrangler by Style & Design. Said to be inspired by sailboats, the White is highlighted in chrome, which covers the 20-inch chrome wheels, seven-slat grille, door handles and trunk hinges. The interior is swathed in Navy White leather with wooden-deck-style coverings for the floors, dash, console, doors and gearlever.

The Black Jeep Wrangler by Style & Design draws inspiration from yachts and, as its name implies, is black both inside and out with chrome and wooden deck embellishments similar to its lighter sibling. Both machines are also equipped with canvas awnings and a pair of canvas folding chairs.

No details have been given as to what's powering these machines or if there are any chassis modifications, so we're assuming they were left mechanically stock. Feel free to peruse the translated press release after the break, and be sure to scroll through our high-res image gallery.

About Audi R8 Hyper Black Edition

Audi R8 Hyper Black Edition Once the car reaches a road speed of 100 km/h, the rear spoiler moves automatically as if by magic. This street legal sports car that somehow has a look of UFO – albeit a fantastically beautiful – inspires respect to any Porsche. With 443 inches long, only 125 height and 1620 kg weight, this all-aluminum flounder is practically sticking on the street.

Once again the company ANDERSON Germany from Dusseldorf helps a practically perfect Audi R8 with specific interventions to attract unlimited attention. First, the performance of 5.2 liter engine and 525 hp was increased, that provides now up to 8700 rpm, 589 hp and accordingly grown torque. This power increase was implemented through the Rennkats exhaust system (this alone allows to save 22 kg weight), a software optimization, and air filter modification. Of course, the exhaust path has a remote-controlled valve adjusting system that lets the driver opt from three different levels of noise. So much for the “inner values”.
Among external and thus visible changes, it is worth to mention exclusive carbon-coated 19-inch rims painted in body color with edging in Racing Orange style. Through the rim, the brake caliper is visible, of course, painted in Racing Orange as well.
On the other hand, the carbon exterior package should also be mentioned which, apart from the window frames, has “covered” various other parts like the front spoiler lip, rear spoiler for improved downforce, the rear diffuser and the mirror. All windows and rear lights were tinted. Last but not least is the expensive paint finish in black mirror which Anderson worthily called Hyper Black. This paint gives the R8 V10 somewhat a black soul.
The interior finish with matte black carbon fiber leather combined with orange Alcantara holds any comparison. At this point, this so-called carbon interior package includes the handbrake handle, the radio visor, the ashtray, the handles of the seat adjustment, door panels, and the side panels of the center console and shifter surround. And finally, the already first-rate sports steering wheel was additionally enhanced with visible carbon.

Most Expensive Cars In The World McLaren F1

Price $970,000. In 1994, the McLaren F1 was the fastest and most expensive car. Even though it was built 15 years ago, it has an unbelievable  top speed of 240 mph and reaching 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Even today, the McLaren F1 is still top on the list and outperforms many other supercars.

The McLaren F1 is more than just a fast car. This is a car that has made its stable mark in automotive history. Blessed with some of the most impeccable engineering in its time, it is a watershed moment for the automotive industry.

McLaren F1

History
It all started when a car designer by the name of Gordon Murray, the same guy who designed Formula 1 cars for both Brabham and McLaren. Its blueprint was quite simple: it is light, it is streamlined, and it incorporates a host of proprietary technologies that most supercar manufacturers took literally decades to match.

The first thing that you will notice about this car is that it is unconventionally designed. Possessing a unique 3 seater configuration, the driver is situated at the center of the interior, with 2 passenger seats flanked along the back of the driver. This configuration allows for maximum visibility. But there are modifications that has been done on this car.

It is no secret that one of the most time tested formulas in performance vehicles is to have high power and low weight. It is interesting how the McLaren F1 attained its low weight. For starters, this is the first production car to use a monocoque chassis made out of carbon fiber. In addition, other components of the car such as the body, interior, and all those other parts are made out of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber, titanium, and Kevlar just to name a few.
Getting its inspiration from the Honda NSX, they improved the ride quality of the car as to get the perfect balance between handling and comfort, performance and usability. And to top it off, it proves its excellence in safety during a crash while testing, and the test driver, rumored to be wearing just a shirt and shorts, left the crash unscathed.

Performance
On the engine department, Murray wanted a naturally aspirated engine that allows it to be more reliable and easy to manipulate. After going through some candidates, the McLaren team settled on a BMW-designed 6.0 liter V12 engine that weighs in at 266 kilograms and yet generates 627 horsepower. Having a powerful engine means producing a lot of heat on the engine compartment that may damage the carbon fiber parts. McLaren’s solution? They had the compartment plated by gold foil for insulation. Combined with the frame’s light frame, the power to weight ratio of the McLaren F1 can only be described as amazing: 550 horsepower per ton.
For a very long time, the McLaren F1 had been the world’s fastest car, and even now, it is still very difficult to beat. Zero to 62 mph comes at 3.2 seconds, zero to 100 miles per hour comes at 6.3 seconds, and a top speed of almost 248 mph are some of its performance numbers. But this car is more than just that. The McLaren F1 has set a standard in the sports car industry. Featuring many innovative techniques that had been way ahead of its time, it is one of the greatest cars ever built. Indeed, it lived up to Gordon Murray’s dream of building the ultimate road car.
